I was hired to create a website for a client, and after I did that they decided that wanted to integrate an online store with the site. So I have already built the site and a CMS to update different aspects of the site, but I need to come up with a solution for an online store, which I have never done before.

Now as far as I understand I could setup a page like store.clientsite.com that links to the store itself, but the client would like to be able to integrate items from the store into the actual website. (the one I designed)...is there any way I can accomplish this? Does this make sense?

Andy, yes this is doable. You can setup a store.clientsite.com just like you've mentioned, and have the shopping cart under the store subdomain.

Many shopping cart solutions have the feature of using "add to cart buttons" for specific products on other sites.

The worst case scenario would be some extra manual work for you, such as adding featured products, etc. on the clientsite.com manually.

From the SEO perspective, having your shopping cart under a subdomain has both advantages, and disadvantages. But you can fix most of the SEO problems by on page SEO, and the internal linking structure of the site.

I won't be able to come up with a list of shopping carts that support this feature right now, but you can contact the shopping cart companies, and ask if they have this feature, or open a separate question here, and ask about it. I'm sure most shopping cart companies will be answering your question right here on ecommerceaid.com

I hope my answer helps, and feel free to ask new questions or add your comments here for further clarification.

Good luck.

Hi,

We build on Big Commerce (Use this link --> http://bit.ly/a8SdiA <--- )

We run everything using an "A" record (store.domain.com) so when they are on your site, they go to the store and back - it appears as they NEVER leave your site.

This should do what you are looking for, 100% customizable, LOW LOW LOW COST!!!!, and great tech support.

Let me know if you need help

You can use CoreCommerce to do this. It is really simple.

Look for an ecommerce solution that provides good integration capabilities. We recommend Shopify to our clients. It is a hosted solution that is very designer friendly. It can be used as the store component of a site by mapping store.yoursite.com.
