We are working with a video production company to get product videos built for our ecommerce site.

Most of the video hosting services let you host your videos for free, but they usually run ads on these videos. We don't want to go with a free video hosting service like Youtube.

Since we have never hosted video ourselves before, we don't know the ins and outs of the online video field.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for quality and affordable video hosting service for our ecommerce product videos (we will be hosting around 200 videos for now.)

Brad, there are many solutions for video hosting in the market.

I see a quite number of websites hosting their videos on Amazon S3. Check out Amazon S3's pricing structure.

Some well known video sites also offer premium services where you can host your videos to specifically feature on your site.

Since you will be getting videos produced for your products, you should also use these for video marketing.

Here's a free service I personally use for distributing your videos to most of the online video sites, called TubeMogul.

Brad,

Sounds like Marcellus might be a perfect fit for you.

Key questions for you in determining affordability and quality are:

Affordability: - what's the average duration per video? - How many monthly video playbacks do you expect? - What is the average viewing duration, per playback? [the combination of these will get you an indication of your storage and bandwidth costs- that ultimately drives your cost of online video delivery and hosting]

Quality: - what is the encoding codec used to convert videos? - how is the buffering for videos? does it stutter once it starts playback?(strict no-no) - how customizable is the player itself? can you change the colors, dimensions, and add your own overlay branding?

If you're still looking for a video solution, then drop us a line(buzz@marcellus.tv) or just create a free, 30-day evaluation account(no credit card required) at https://marcellus.tv/start

Good luck!

You might want to look at Fliqz. In addition to video hosting, we offer a video SEO tool that will submit your videos to Google. Imagine if someone performs a keyword search for one of your products, they just might see your video on the SERPs.
